{wedding wednesday: trend alternatives pt. 2}

A few months ago, I did one of my very favorite Wedding Wednesday posts, where I gave you alternatives to some popular wedding trends. I wanted to bring that back for a part two (and there will probably be a few more in the future).

Signature cocktails are a really great way to have an open bar, but keep costs low. They're always the perfect way to insert a little personality into your reception. If you and your fiance prefer wine over cocktails, however, why not have a winemaker custom make a blend for you? It may not be very common, but many wineries do create blends like this. It doesn't hurt to ask!

If you know me at all, you know that I'm completely obsessed with Parisian macarons. They come in so many different colors and flavors, and they just taste so good. Even I have to admit, however, that they are getting to be a little overdone (though I'll never stop loving them). Mini desserts are quickly becoming the norm, but why not try cream puffs as a classy and sweet alternative to macarons?

Chandeliers are a really gorgeous and classy lighting option, but there really are a lot of weddings that use them these days. I saw this image of hanging bistro lights, however, and I thought that hanging them this way was a really inexpensive, and unique way to add some lighting to your reception!

I can't lie, I'm really not a fan of chiavari chairs. At all. They're easy enough to rent, and most companies offer quite a few different color options, but I say let's rebel. I'm actually a much bigger fan of these walnut bentwood chairs. They're prettier, classier, and actually cheaper than chiavaris (at least where I get them from). Definitely look into what alternatives your rental company offers. You might be surprised.

What are your favorite alternatives to common wedding trends these days?
There are no real rules for Wedding Wednesday, I just ask that your post be wedding related. It doesn’t need to be the same topic that I’m posting about. I also ask that you try to visit a few other blogs to say hi, and I would love it if you would use my button (found here).

Garden roses instead of peonies, that's what I did for my bouquet. Also buffet instead of served, plus we had a restaurant cater instead of a wedding caterer. It saved us so much and the food was delicious!

Those chiavaris, or what others call Tiffany's, always feel so rickety, or like their going to break at any second. I don't trust those. Love this post and series Joelle, can't wait to see what you come up with in future!

I love the wine blend idea! My husband also brews beer, so that would be a fun idea too- create your own labels and everything for a special wedding brew! :)

I LOVE THE STRING LIGHTS! our venue has these gorgeous high beams in the barn. and we're going to twirl fairy lights around them - I love the idea of having them trail vertically, too :)

I love love love the string lights!!!! MUCH prettier than the chandeliers! I also love the chairs you showed instead of the chiavari chairs. We could have paid extra for the chiavari chairs at ours, but we went with the standard white wood ones and dressing them up with a chair sash really helped! :)

I actually really love all of these alternatives! My favorite would have to be the custom wine blend though... it would be perfect for Jurgen and I :)

I love alternative wedding trends, and I love string lights so much I want them in every room I ever enter.

I have yet to even taste a real French macaroon. They are impossible to find locally where I live. =( I'm convinced I shall never taste one. =(

I am DYING to do an elopement! I think that you have to do what is right for you, and sometimes that means bucking tradition and doing it your own way ;)

Aren't they gorgeous! I'm in love!

Oh no, really?! I actually get them shipped to me. I should give you their site...they really are amazing!

I know, right? I kind of want to buy some and just put them all over my apartment...

I'm glad you think so! And I actually like the standard white wood chairs a lot more than chiavaris most of the time!

They do seem a little rickety, and cheap, to me! And thank you so much for your kind words about the post. It's a fun one to write! xoxo

I mentioned garden roses in my last post on alternatives to wedding trends! They're one of my wedding flowers :) And having a restaurant is definitely the way to go! I also recommend it to my clients.
