And the Winner is...

The Golden Globes are tomorrow night, and I thought that I might give what I would choose to win if it were up to me.

Best Motion Picture ~ Drama

Nominees: Black Swan, the Fighter, Inception, Social Network, the King's Speech

And the winner is...

The Social Network

I remember my roommate from my freshman year of college writing me a letter and telling me that I should get a Facebook. It was 2005, and I had never heard of it before.

Now look where we are.

If you haven't seen this movie, go. If you have some type of preconceived notion that it's not going to be anything special, I beg you to reconsider. If you spend more time on Facebook than you do with actual people, you just have a problem...

But in all seriousness, this movie is fascinating. It's a symbol of where our society is; how dependent we are on our social networking sites. The way he interacts with people inspires his ideas for Facebook {my personal favorite is when someone asks him if he knows whether or not a girl is single...and the "Relationship Status" is born}. It truly makes you think of how all of it affects our social interaction and how we are as people.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture ~ Drama

Nominees: Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence

And the winner is...

Natalie Portman, Black Swan

I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. It was a beautiful movie; the story line was intriguing and immaculately told. But, as I'm sure you've gathered by now, I get annoyed easily. And what annoys me most in life are people that accept their lot in life without doing anything to change it. If you haven't seen the movie, the basic premise is that Nina {Natalie} is a ballerina, constrained by her talent, her purity, and her overbearing mother.

Regardless, anybody that throws them self into a role as passionately as Natalie Portman did absolutely deserves recognition. Her body is a testament to the fervor in which she became the character, as beautiful and heartbreaking as it is. It isn't often that you look at a character and see them completely, as raw and imperfect as they are. And that's what Natalie did. And that's why she deserves this award.

Best Motion Picture ~ Comedy or Musical

Nominees:  The Kids are Alright, the Tourist, Burlesque, Red, Alice in Wonderland

And the winner is...

Alice in Wonderland

I loved this movie. I know that there are a lot of people out there with negative impressions, for whatever reason, but I truly loved it. Tim Burton {who I think is a genius} couldn't just retell the Disney version of the story. It was his responsibility {and the responsibility of the writer, of course} to reinterpret the story, and I think he did so beautifully.  It's not too "feel-good." Instead, it's dark and creepy and absolutely beautiful. Helena Bonham Carter is, in my opinion, one of the most underutilized actresses and a creative genius. Johnny Depp played the role of the Mad Hatter perfectly, and I don't know that I could ever imagine someone else playing the part in the future. And I guarantee you that this isn't the end ofMia Wasikowska's career.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture ~ Comedy or Musical

Nominees: Annette Benning, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone

And the winner is...

Emma Stone, Easy A

So, I know it's highly doubtful that Emma will win this award, but I adored her in this movie. I only saw it a few weeks ago and I kind of fell in love. She is just so cute and witty and great...a perfect actress. I don't know if any of you have ever read The Help {I highly recommend it}, but she is going to play one of the main roles. I truly believe that she is a major up-and-coming actress, and I can't wait to see what she does in the future.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture ~ Comedy or Musical

Nominees: Johnny Depp {times two}, Paul Giamatti, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin Spacey

And the winner is...

Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland

I love Johnny Depp. Let me repeat that: I love Johnny Depp.

So, I'm a little biased, but I really do think that he deserves this. He was incredible in that movie, so charming and sweet and crazy...I loved it {as you already know...}. There's not much more to say that that.

That's all I have. I'm not much of a TV person, so if it were up to me to judge the winners for television, Glee and House would pretty much win everything.

Do you all agree with my choices? I admit that I haven't seen all of the movies nominated, but I think I've done pretty good this year. I'm very excited to watch the awards tomorrow night to see how I did!
