{my real home}

I've been stressing over a lot of things lately, but one of my main issues right now is how messy my home is. I've been too busy to really do much cleaning these days, and I feel bad that my husband has to deal with it (though he doesn't seem to mind much). I also feel embarrassed, even if nobody is coming over or seeing it...I guess that's part of blogging. We put our best selves out there, but it's not always the truth. Margaret posted the other day about her "real life", and it got me thinking...am I just embarrassed about my home because of what people might think if they saw it?

I don't have the perfect home, at all, in case you're wondering. I hate our apartment complex, which is old and not very pretty to look at. I've tried to make the inside of our apartment look pretty, but I just don't always have time to keep it clutter free. I may be organized with my business, but I don't always have time to keep my own life organized. Don't believe me?
My poor dog has to share her favorite seat with a table, at least until I get my office space to store it at (which is happening sooner rather than later). Not only that, but I still haven't put back up the curtains that fell down the other day, or taken down my already pathetic Valentine's Day decorations...
There are a lot of things contributing to my stress these days, and I think a big part of it is just not prioritizing. Having a home that I like to be in is important to me, and I've spent a lot of time and money getting it to that point. Not only that, but my messy home kind of symbolizes my personal life in general right now. Business-wise, things are going amazingly well! But I think I need to re-prioritize things a bit, and get my personal life in order as well. I know that my home won't always be neat and clean, but I can at least try a little bit harder. I can work harder on making dinner for my husband and I, and focus on our relationship a little more, because that's the one that matters. If that means turning the computer off at six every night, then that's what I need to do.

I'll probably be blogging about this a little more in the upcoming weeks and months. Finding that balance between my personal and professional life is really one that I'm struggling with, but it's really so important that I do. To me, it's non-negotiable.

love this. i think i'm going to have to do something similar - i'm not very good at keeping everything clutter free unless we have people coming over - definitely a goal of mine but not one i'm good at following through on

Oh your apartment looks waaaaaay better than ours ever did!:-) And now that we are in a house, it's a mish mosh of organized chaos during the decorating process. The long decorating process, that probably never ends. Hello Life! xoxo

I'm so looking forward to reading more about this in the future because it's something I struggle with too. Not so much with business, more so with working full time and trying to maintain a clean and orderly home, make dinner, etc., but I can definitely relate.

I posted something like this a few months back. I think the majority of us have homes that are a mess, but blogs/Pinterest have led us to believe we're the only ones. Definitely not the case.

I really hope that you don't think I'm copying you, but I totally had this post scheduled to post tomorrow! haha. Great minds think alike, right? :) I love seeing this look into your life. It's so real! Your bed looks super comfy...

I love looking into other people's places!

Oh goodness I hear ya! My place is a disaster, and even with being off work this week it still isn't cleaned up (I just used all my teaching hours on blogging).
Thank you for sharing this and reminding everyone that not everyone has that perfect looking home!

Love the idea behind this post! Everyone's house gets a little messy at times, and for sure, we all clean it before taking any photos for the blog!

Girl, I love that you shared this! I'm glad I could inspire you to step out of your comfort zone. And seriously, this is hardly bad.

I'd still come over! ;)

Man, everything looks better in B&W. Your house doesn't look that bad! Thanks for keeping it real though... My kitchen ALWAYS has a pile of dishes. No matter what. Counter (which is one square foot, seriously) and stove. And I totally have hid them in the oven while having people over. I'm one of those people.... haha.

Wow. I love your cluttered,it's so...organized. My house is waaay more messy but then again, I live with others. I condiser their messy, well, theirs. I clean up what I can but there is only so far I will go for them. As for me, OCD all the way!

Your clutter doesn't look that bad, the black & white helps though I'm sure! :) I totally get where you're coming from, my house is a mess right now too :(

Keeping a small space organized is so challenging! Though naturally on the messy side, I do feel like I'm happier when there's a bit more order. But it's so hard when I've only got one room in the house and it's all cramped into a tiny space! I can't tell you how much I look forward to getting a place of my own and spreading everything out... *sigh*. With all these beautiful blogs, I get a bit self conscious about it sometimes, so yayyy solidarity!

Oh, I definitely know what you mean. Our apartment is a decent size now, but I remember living in college and having only a little room to myself. I look at the homes of other bloggers and get a bit envious too, but I'm trying to enjoy not having to maintain a huge home for now!

Haha, thus the black and white ;) I guess it isn't too terrible in the photos, but I definitely left out some of the worse areas!

I absolutely get what you mean! I don't miss living with roommates at all! I've had some terrible ones that just left messes wherever they went. I guess it's made an impact on me...I try not to let things get too terrible!

I just had to do black and white, or else I would have been even more embarrassed...my home always has some type of mess, but it's my mess and I love it! And yes, I've definitely hidden dirty dishes in the oven before too ;) xoxo

Thank you so much for inspiring me to do this Margaret! It's so important to see that we all aren't actually perfect. And I'd clean up at least a little before I had you over ;) xo

Most of the pictures I have on my blog are neat and clean, but I can't even begin to tell you about the messes everywhere else! I think it's important to know that we really can't do it all sometimes!

I don't think it matters how much free time I have either...my house will always be messy! But I guess that just means that it's well-lived and well-loved ;)

Unknown said...

Haha me too! There's something so fascinating about it :)

I just saw the post (and commented), but thanks again for the shout out! And our bed kind of is a cloud. It's wonderful...

It's true! In the age of Pinterest and blogging, perfection is considered the norm. My home is never perfect, and rarely clean, so...maybe I just need to adjust my expectations! Thanks for stopping by Allyssa! xo

I think we all have issues maintaining that balance, even if we're home all the time! I think the main thing I've learned is to just go with the flow, and not be so upset when things are a little messy sometimes. It just can't be perfect all the time!

Unknown said...

Haha thanks lady ;) I think the photos make it look much nicer than it actually is...and while I wish we had an actual house sometimes, I'm trying to appreciate the minimal upkeep in an apartment. If it's this bad now, I can only imagine what it would be when we own a home!

I think we are all somewhat okay with living in our own mess...but I freak out when I have people over (like you wouldn't believe). Definitely something I need to work on too!
