Number 32

It's sounds simple. I mean, it can't be that hard.

I have been trying to get organized for a very long time {read: years}. I love organization. I love reading blogs and books about being organized.

Am I strange? Absolutely, though you didn't really need this post to tell you that.

Anyway, it's on my list. And I need to get started.

Like I said, I have tried for a very long time to get everything from my life to my work to my home organized. I left number 32 vague on purpose, because I want to get as organized as possible.

Usually, however, I just go. I don't make a plan. I don't really research. I just start creating a notebook or Google Site.

This time, I'm going to prepare. And this time, I have my blog. I don't want to start just another personal organization blog. I do, however, want to share how a normal person like myself gets organized.

So, here are the areas in my life that I need/want to organize:

Recipes and menu planning
Coupons and grocery shopping {look for another blog post about this soon}
Finances and bills
Cleaning schedule and household chores
Calendar and schedule
To-dos and errands
Goals {both short term and long term}
My blog
My business
Birthdays and other events
Miscellaneous personal things {i.e. prescriptions, diet, etc.}

Sounds random? It is. I have absolutely no idea where to start. But I do know that I want to be as streamlined as possible. I want to use the right tools, whether it's a physical notebook for some things {I like my handwriting too much to do everything on the computer} or syncing my iPhone with Google. And I want to be efficient.

The point of this post? I want to know your secrets. How do you stay organized? What is the best tip you can give me? Are there any resources that you recommend?

I NEED HELP PEOPLE.

Thanks :)

Uuummm congrats on 300 followers - I just noticed it now! I think I started reading your blog when you were under 50 and it has gained so much momentum in such a short amount of time - so inspiring!

As for organization - I love it too, but am horrible at it. I recently started using google calender though and it's worked well for me in terms of keep track of client meetings and night classes.

I totally know how you feel. I feel like I've got all of them only sorta figured out.

I wish I could help- I suck at organisation!!! I strted off well this school year as had all the sports meetings in my diary but then actual teaching got in the way. That's where I would like to sort my organisation out!

I've been organizing too! Yesterday was shred day! 2 trash bags of old receipts later, we're in the clear!

My secret? Figure out the room that matters most to you and take care of it first! Usually, my kitchen is what takes priority. It's a sanctuary for me and when it's in ruins, my life is in ruins. I always take care of it first. And it usually takes me the longest so it only gets easier!

I LIVE by my outlook calendar. I put birthdays, anniversary's and other important dates on there recurring forever so I don't have to remember from year to year.

I would love to get more organized as well and hope you share the process with us when you get started!

One thing I've started doing involves sweeping. Our apartment has all hardwood floors and since last Thursday, I have tried to sweep them every day or at least every other day. With a cat and the amount of stuff we seem to drag in, it is definitely a necessity :)

I feel like I never have time to organize, even though when I was younger I did it all the time. I have pictures I developed months ago still in the Walmart paper cover thing, papers all over, and random crap on my desk that is out but not often used.
You should conquer one area first and finish it before heading to another.

Household chores is one of the biggest things I've had to overcome with regards to getting organised...Whether the place be clean as an operating theatre or filthy as a back alley I never quite know where to start and I find myself doing the same little bits over again because they're the easiest/least nasty/least boring bits to do!

Anyway, a while back I found a site called "FLY Lady" which I don't have a link to on hand but Im pretty sure if you google it, it comes up tops...it looks at first like a whole lot of stuff but its system really helped me getting to grips with chores and paying bills on time. It has an awful lot of merchendise that it will try and push on you if you sign up to the daily email alerts but if you can look past that, you don't need to pay a penny to follow the advice :)
