Robert and I drove down to see our families on Sunday, for Father's Day. When choosing my outfit, I grabbed something pretty standard in my wardrobe: a peach, polka dotted dress and a pair of nude high heels. I didn't think much of it; anyone who knows me well knows that I dress up when I can, even if it isn't a special occasion. But it was a special occasion, so I wanted to look especially nice.
To me, wearing high heels is normal. I wear them probably four out of the seven days of the week. I can walk just as well in heels as I can in flats. And again, I don't think too much of it. But every time I go home to see my family, I realize that it's actually something kind of special.
My mom, mother-in-law, and grandmother-in-law always say something about how pretty (or classy) I look. And I've realized that for the most part, it's because of the heels. I wear dresses all the time, but nobody makes a big deal about it unless I'm wearing high heels. Maybe it's because there aren't very many women these days who wear something as understated as a simple black or nude pump. They aren't anything fancy, but they also aren't hot pink wedges or glitter platforms.
Wearing high heels makes me feel pretty. And elegant and sexy and sophisticated. It may not be like that for everyone, but that's alright. Maybe it's that little black dress, or your red lipstick. Or even torn jeans and tennis shoes. It doesn't matter really. But, once you find that one thing that makes you feel beautiful and confident, then run with it. I promise it will make a difference.
What makes you feel beautiful?
