{two days and life, lately}

Two days left. Not even two full days, since they can't really expect me to spend eight hours tomorrow doing nothing (I've already been replaced), and I'll leave around lunchtime on Friday, never to come back

I don't even know that I can explain what a disaster our home is right now. It's like a cesspool of stress (I think that may be the first time I've said cesspool on my blog)...Robert is in the middle of finals and exams for the most stressful semester of his life. And I'm, well...I'm me. Emotional, stressed-out me.

Here's an update to life right now...

+ My office is coming together, slowly but surely. It's a mess of boxes and crap everywhere, but I have a new desk and chair and monitor and it's going to be so pretty! I can't wait to share it with all of you!
+ We don't even have our Christmas tree up yet. I can't ask Robert to do anything for me right now, and I haven't had the energy to pull it out of the box to put it together. We've already built two desks, an office chair, and a nightstand this week. I need a break.

+ The good part about reading so many books is that I'm feeling motivated to write my own book. I had a really amazing day today full of good thoughts and ideas. I love days like that.

+ I think I go between feeling ecstatic and optimistic about the future, and absolutely terrified. Can I be done with this yet?

+ This is my new favorite song on RED. I hated it when I first heard it. And now, I hate myself. I actually made it the ringtone for my girlfriends. It seems appropriate. Not the hate part. Because it's fun.

+ I feel like I'm neglecting my blog, and I apologize if you feel the same way. Next week though...starting next week, it's on. Also, please forgive me for not commenting on other blogs right now. I currently have 978 unread posts on my reader and it's freaking overwhelming. I'm using that not-so-smart avoidance strategy with both my inbox and my reader. It's a terrible, terrible habit. Please don't judge me.

I do need your help with a few things though...
  • I need ideas on how to display my washi tape. It's too pretty to be hidden away in a drawer. Suggestions? And yes, this is a legit question, since I have over twenty washi tapes...
  • As an anxious mess right now (and yes, I know that I said I was tired of being stressed on Monday, but things change...) I'm going to beg you right now: please go at least the speed limit while driving. and stay off your phone while in the grocery store. and chew quietly. It's the little things that are going to tip me over the edge soon.
  • If you have a shop or service, I would love it if you would consider advertising on Something Charming soon! After Friday, my blog will be an actual, grown-up source of income for me...so, I could use the support...sidebar ads aren't my only option (and they aren't nearly my number one source of income for my blog), so let me know if you're interested in hearing what opportunities I have available!
  • I have this Kate Spade case for my old iPhone, and I don't need it anymore since we got 5s on Saturday. First person to email me gets it. For free, if that wasn't implied.
That's all. Love you.

Oh, I feel the need to tell you now that I'm writing this post while drinking a glass of wine that came from a box. Yeah, it's classy time up in here tonight.

Love this entire post. Love the word "cesspool" and your ability to use it correctly in a sentence, love that I'm not the only one slacking on putting up her Christmas tree, and love that you have over twenty washi tapes. If I come up with any good ideas, I'll let you know, STAT. I'm excited to see you next week, friend! We're going to take some rad photos of you!!

Love this entire post! I love that you used "cesspool" in a legit sentence, that I'm not the only one who hasn't put up her Christmas tree yet, and that you have over twenty washi tapes. If I see any cool ideas for displaying them you'll be first to know. I'm excited to see you next week, friend!

Wow! Lots of life changes lady!! Don't worry about us, you just take care of yourself OKAY!? Life gets in the way of blogging sometimes, it happens ;)

As for your washi tape issue, I've found a couple ideas that I think would work...

Here a paper towel dispenser is used, I'd personally spray paint it gold:

This would also be very easy to make (or use coat pegs?):

Hope those spark some ideas for you! Good luck!!

Ahhh! It must be such an exciting and nerve-wracking time for you! But remember how hard you worked for this... and remember when this dream was just a teeny tiny idea of a possibility planted in the back of your head! You made it - and I know you guys will be more than fine :)

oh man, such an exciting AND stressful time! I bet you'll feel better after lunch on Friday - even if you're looking forward to the change, it can be a bitch. but once you're 100% on the other side, it's liberating!

and for the washi tape: what about getting a paper towel holder to put them on? (I see that Brittany had the same idea but more brilliantly... haha!)

I'm so happy for you! I can only imagine what a stressful time this is for you - but I know you'll get through it with strength, because you're just that fabulous. I emailed you about the iPhone case - I'd love to give it a new home! xoxo, eliza

You will feel so much better once you're out of there. I think some of the stress will subside :) I don't feel like you're neglecting your blog. Sometimes life gets in the way. I totally think you should write your own book! Would love to hear more details about that sometime. Xo

I'm excited for you, Joelle! I know it feels crazy and messy right now, but your life will be so much better for it!

I am seriously so excited for you! It's been so cool to watch my MIL quit her lame office job to blog full time and I know how happy it's made her. With all of your amazing talents I just know the same will happen for you :)

I'm a pro at the avoidance strategy. If I don't see it, it doesn't exist, right? The only way I can think of to display washi tape is in a pretty glass canister or something like that. I know I've seen other cool ways before, but my mind is drawing a blank!

I rock the avoidance angle pretty much every day of my life, so no judgement here!

Holy cow girl - get yourself to a cup of tea this instant and take a breather! =) I'm sending some nice soothing thoughts your way. As for the pretty tape.... let's see. I don't have pretty tape at home {one roll doesn't count} but I do have lots of pretty ribbon and Michael set up a little dowel attached to the wall where I have it all organized and I can just pull it off. Maybe try something like that? You just need two little curtain rod brackets {like cup hooks} and a dowel. Thread tape onto it and keep the scissors nearby! =)

And... you can find me at www.magslifetoday.blogspot.com if you want!

Unknown said...

I love the idea of hanging brackets up! I think I'll have to check that out, thanks! xoxo

Unknown said...

Ha, glad I'm not the only one ;) And now you know why I haven't responded to your email from Monday...

Unknown said...

Well, it sounds like this is a pretty accepted system, so maybe I shouldn't feel so bad! And I like the idea of displaying my tapes in a clear canister...that could definitely work, thanks! xoxo

Unknown said...

Thanks my dear! Your MIL is seriously inspirational when it comes to the whole blogging thing, and it gives me hope that what I want to do can actually be done! xoxo

Unknown said...

Thank you so much Lindsay! I'm trying so hard to feel positive about all of this, but it can be hard sometimes. I know everything will work out though :) xoxo

Unknown said...

Thanks Margaret! I think the stress will go away too, once I get into the swing of working for myself. And you all will definitely know when my book is ready to go! xoxo

Unknown said...

You are so sweet Eliza :) I feel so thankful to have such an amazing network of bloggers who support and encourage me! And I'm sorry about the iPhone case...next time! xoxo

Unknown said...

I am definitely holding you to that Betsy, since you've been there before :) I know that I will finally be able to breathe easier tomorrow, it's just getting to that point that's hard! and I love the idea of doing something like a paper towel holder or dowel to hold them. I'll definitely research that that more! xoxoxo

Unknown said...

Thank you so much Jenna! You've been there for me from the beginning, and I can't say enough how much I love and appreciate you! I can't wait to start this next chapter, and you're so right...I've worked quite a while for this :) xoxo

Unknown said...

Thanks Brittany! I know that I shouldn't be so hard on myself for this whole blogging thing, but I can't help it sometimes ;) And I love those ideas for the washi tape! I'll definitely look into them more, thanks! xoxo

I think this may be why we're friends Emily ;) Thanks for being so amazing and awesome, and for making me feel better about all these things that I feel like I'm "slacking" about but I'm really not! And I'm excited about next week too! xoxoxo

Unknown said...

I agree -- we have a lot in common, namely that we feel like we're "slacking" when really what we're doing is focusing on the things that slip through the cracks instead of ALL the things that we ARE accomplishing!
If you're not okay with railroad tracks we could always do a train station without the tracks being involved! :) I can do Thursday morning as long as we're done by noon, I have an appointment in Pasadena at 1:00 p.m., or I could do Friday morning (same thing, would need to be done by 12 or 1, meeting with clients in Pomona at 3:00!). I could also do Monday? Free all day on Monday.

Also, random, but did Lauren Hochleutner contact you yet? She hired me for her wedding photography and mentioned she planned to hire you for day-of coordination. I got excited that we'll be working together! :) I told Lauren we know each other and she was pretty excited about that.

I love that you felt the need to admit you were drinking wine from a box. We've all been there.

Unknown said...

In my defense...it was a "fancier" wine from a box. If that's a thing...

Unknown said...

22 is my favorite. I think it's partly because I am that age, but also because it reminds you to just be carefree and live in the moment. I hate to admit it, but T-Swift knows what she is talking about sometimes.

Little by little that office will come together. Thankfully we all have Pinterest and blogging for inspiration :)

It's a good song, I can admit that now :) I'm a little older than 22, but it's definitely fun and carefree. I like to think that T. knows what she's talking about quite a bit of the time ;) xoxo
