{a giveaway, just because}

Sometimes, when I'm down, I like to do things for other people. There aren't many things that are going to make me feel better today, so why not? The world is far too big of a place for me to dwell on any one thing, and my problems are so small compared to others. Regardless of what others think my intentions are, all I'm really trying to do is just bring a little pretty to the world.

I want to do something a little different for this giveaway. Usually I give away a $50 gift card to Anthropologie or Nordstrom or Kate Spade. This time, however, I'm going to give away two $25 gift cards instead: one for you to keep, and one for you to give to someone who you think needs it. Maybe they are struggling with money and haven't had a chance to pamper themselves in a while. Or maybe are questioning their self worth, or maybe they are just going through a general rough patch in life. We all need a reminder every once in a while that someone is thinking about us, and this is your chance to make someone's day a little brighter.
The two gift cards can be for whatever place* that you want, just comment below with where you'd get them for, who they would be for, and why. There's no Rafflecopter for this one; I just want to see the sincerity and generosity that I truly believe are part of this blogging community. Good luck!

*Note that I need to be able to buy the gift cards online, so they can't be for a local store or any obscure place. Also, they need to be to the same place, so be sure to think creatively!

This is such a nice idea! I would go for Dinner at the Olive Garden. My bestie Eri would get the second one, she has been dealing with a lot, her step-father got diagnosed with cancer, and her mom has had 6 surgeries in the past year, so I know that between her job and helping out with them she hasn't had a lot of her time. It would be nice to give it to her and then have like a girls dinner out to help her relax.

I'm sorry you're feeling down today and genuinely hope you feel better. We've all been through our moments and they are never fun and it's hard for others to understand. This is such a sweet idea. Probably one of my favorite giveaways that i've participated in. Without a doubt, my second gift card would go to my mom. She's been under a lot of stress lately working towards starting an entirely new chapter in life and i feel like she could use a pick me up. She's one of those people who always puts others first so she never really puts in the effort or time to pamper herself so i'd love to be able to do it for her. I'd probably go with a gift card to Nordstrom because there are so many options and i'm positive i'd find something that would be perfect for her. Again, thanks for the chance to win xx

This is so nice! I'd get one from Anthro, and give the second to my little sister, because she's shown herself to be way more selfless than me. I could stand to learn a lot from her.

This is such a kind post! I hope you're feeling better soon.

My wedding is next week, and my maid of honour has been THE BEST, despite living across the country - She's come to visit me four times since our engagement last fall, and had planned to come down this week to throw me my bachelorette party this Saturday. Her sister works for an airline, so she flies standby, but on Monday night found out that her dog (her baby) needed to be put down, so she's unable to fly standby and make the flight - leaving her nearly 800 out of pocket for a round-trip flight just to throw me a party. She has very little time, so has also resolved to write her MOH speech on the plane this evening...hours after she has just made the toughest decision she could (to put her pup down). On top of that sadness, she found out yesterday that she didn't get a job she really wanted (and had interviewed twice for) - She's having a really crumby week, and I would love to be able to show her how much she means to me by getting her a gift card to chapters - She loves to read, and has a laundry list of books on her to-read list.

I hope you are feeling better! Doing things for others is such a good way to try and feel better, you have such a big heart!
I would probably pick Kate Spade! Their new purse is on my wish list! I would send the other one to my mom. She has had a really hard life and yet she is the strongest person I know, she is there for me every single day no matter what. She has been amazing role model and she could use a pick me up!

Such a great idea, I have found that focusing on others when I'm struggling helps so much. So sorry that you are feeling down! I would love to share a gift card from Anthropologie with my best friend. She moved about ten hours away and is teaching first grade. This year has been extremely tiring for her thus far and I would love to be able to send her a bit of happy :)

I would love a gift card for Free People, my newest clothing addiction. As for the second gift card, I would share with my mom. My parents are having a hard time financially, and I know it would make her feel amazing to be able to buy something new for her wardrobe.

This is such a great idea, you're so sweet! I would pick Target because it brightens anyone's day, and would send the other to my sister who is struggling right now.

I would get them for my best friend and co-worker, Pam! She is an amazing lady who always helps me when I need to be helped. She covers my shifts when I need an hour or two off and always has a positive attitude even when shit goes down! She grounds me and makes me realize what is important in life (family over my stressful job). She has been my rock for the past year! I am moving into a new house in the next few weeks and she has been helping me pack and organize and I didn't have to ask her. She organizes a non-profit company called Traci's Hope who helps to give money to people who can't pay for medical bills. She has been doing this for the past 10 years- A job that she doesn't get paid for but she puts countless hours into every day! I have never met someone who has been so helping, generous and positive. I would give them both to her for Target or Wegmans. Those are the two places she loves the most!! Thanks so much for the chance.

Fun idea! I would choose Etsy (if possible) or West Elm. And I would give one to my bestie who is a new momma who could deserve to spoil herself!

I think I would pick Target, because that store is just full of sunshine and rainbows and happiness that doesn't break the bank. And I think this would the perfect opportunity to give a little gift to a perfect stranger - just to say, "hey, I don't know you, you don't know me, but I love you and want to see you smile today". =)

And... I love you too, and hope you feel better! I know how these days can be.... the black dog follows me closely sometimes (a la Churchill)

aw, that is so sweet! I think Etsy would be the perfect place to get something nice for me and somebody else! My little sister is the perfect candidate for something, because she's in school to be an engineer (how cool is that?) and her tuition fees are through the roof. She has such good self control that she never buys anything for herself, but she works hard and I think she deserves it!

Such a thoughtful thing for you to do, just because :)

This is such a lovely giveaway! I would pick Anthropologie and I would definitely give the card to my lovely mom - it's her birthday this week and she is having financial difficulties so she hasn't treated herself to anything "just because" in a longg time. She needs a little sunshine (and LOVES everything anthro)!

What a sweet idea for a giveaway! I'd pick Target and give the second gift card to my mom. She is always there to listen to me no matter what I'm going through and gives me the best, most honest advice.

Joelle, this is so incredibly sweet of you! I'd pick Kohl's and give not one, but both of the gift cards to my mom. She's on a tight budget and she's in need of some clothes for work (and for fun) so I know she'd absolutely love to be able to go shopping and buy some new things for her wardrobe.

Aw this is so sweet of you. It really is true, everyone is fighting their own battle and has their own heartbreak. My best friend just lost her mom on monday to a short battle with pancreatic cancer. I am about to head out the door to the viewings and funeral and would love to spoil her with a giftcard to Nordstrom or Starbucks!

This IS soooooo sweet! Truly inspirational! I would probably pick TJMaxx or Target because I could always get some pretty sweet little gifts for friends and of course splurge on baby stuff and home good items! I love both of those places. I love your blog more!

Unknown said...

You are too sweet! I think this is a fantastic idea! I would probably pick a Visa card for myself because I'm broke and need money for everything. For someone else I would give a Visa card to my friend because she just had a hefty doctors bill and I can't imagine paying for all of that! Thanks again for the very inspiring idea! Once I get the money I want to do this, too!!

What a sweet idea. Joelle, you seem like such a wonderful person, and I'm so sorry you're having a rough time, but I hope the storm passes soon and you can feel the sunlight again.

If I won, I think an Etsy gift card would be pretty awesome. I love all the little handmade gifts on there, home decor, and paper goods. I would definitely give the second gift card to my mom. First of all, she's my mom and she's truly wonderful and the strongest woman I know. She helped me a lot when I was temporarily living in AZ this past year with my fiancé because we were running very low on money. If I didn't have her, I don't know what I would have done in that situation and many others in my life. To be honest, I know I don't always treat her how I should and I can still be a brat, but not a second goes by that I don't love and appreciate her and all she's done. She is remarkable.

this is awesome. just awesome. i don't want to enter... spread the love to your other amazing readers. i just want to say how neat i think this is :)

What a wonderful idea! I would choose amazon. Not exactly out of the box thinking but seriously, they have EVERYTHING!

Unknown said...

Joelle, this a fabulous idea. I'd give it to a young friend - whose parents are struggling with money and can't buy her the things they want. I'd take her shopping somewhere high school students like these days and grab some icecream afterwards :)

I love this idea and I hope you're feeling happier soon (and that this helps).

Unknown said...

You are seriously the sweetest...when I have a bad day I want to drown my sorrows in carbs, cheese, and wine. And ice cream. Anyway, I would go with Dick's sporting goods, because the first one I would let my husband spend, because he is amazing, and never asks for anything and I KNOW he could use some new golf balls. I mean, he puts up with all of my pity parties, pampers me when I'm feeling down, and will give up a day of golf and do the grocery shopping for me bc he knows I'm too overwhelmed. The second one would go to his dad, my father in law. He has been so kind to me since day one, and he is always helping us out with something, whether it's putting together an entertainment center or coming by to let the dog out when we have to work late. He does all this in addition to splitting up time between Matt's grandmas (because they both have alzheimers and require extra care), taking care of his sister's dogs, and helping Matt's sister sell her house.

What a wonderful thing to do. I really admire this, and wish I were in a place financially where I could do the same. I think in that vein, I would want an Etsy gift card. I like the idea of the money going to help yet another person, like an artist or small business, so I think Etsy would we the best way to be a gift to not only the giftcard winner but the place where the purchase is being made too. :) And if I could pick who to give a giftcard to, it would be my partner. He just started grad school like me (we're in different states now, which is hard!) and money has been really tight. He is always so generous to others and deserves a treat himself. He's also an artist, and would love to support a fellow artist through Etsy. :)

This is such a great idea. I would was thinking of where I could use it for and scrolled through the comments for ideas. There are some people who sound like they have people who could truly use a pick me up. To the most deserving... <3

I would love Anthropologie. I would give my friend one to William Sonoma. We are 1000 miles away right now, but I know that it would brighten her day to get to peruse the smells and sights of Sonoma... we use to do that together when we lived in the same town.

Unknown said...

I would want both for Nordstrom. One for myself and one for my mom as as she deserves it.

Unknown said...

i love this, joelle! i would get them for starbucks, because, well, COFFEE. coffee, especially the treat that is starbucks, can always brighten my day. and i'd give the other one to one of my friends here in the blogging community, because she & i are coffee-kindred spirits.

I would say both to Amazon. My girlfriend and I (she lives in Florida, I live in Arizona) have been wanting to start a cross-country book club for many months. Between her being a newlywed and me starting a new job, we are both tight on money and time. This will help us at least take care of number one. I think there's nothing more wonderful than sharing an experience like reading the same book, listening to the same new CD, watching the same movie together. It makes us feel like the thousands of miles isn't that far. I miss my best friend!

That is so sweet!! I would love to get a gift card to Walmart- I just had a baby last month and the cost of diapers, etc, add up! If I won, I would also gift a gift card to my friend who was so sweet in handing down all of her baby clothes from her son- she is a stay at home mom who makes a lot of sacrifices.

I think that this is so great of you to do. What a huge heart you have, and what an amazing movement to start. I think I would pick Walmart (as lame as that sounds!). I am there on a daily basis- buying diapers, food for the family - or just to get out of the house. It's a few blocks from me, and I LOVE all of the employees that work their. I've become friends with a lot of them. Anyways, if I were to win - I would continue the pay it forward movement. I would giveaway the other gift card to someone I don't know. Help change their outlook on life and kindness.
