{coffee talk}

I'm a firm believer that you can tell a lot about a person by what they drink in the morning. Do they go to Starbucks and order a grande soy skinny hazelnut latte? Do they refuse to go to Starbucks at all? Do they stay home, brewing their freshly ground beans in a French press? Do they drink tea?

In the years that I've been drinking coffee, my own order has changed a lot. Like most teenagers, I appreciated my full-fat white chocolate mocha on occasion when I was young, though I didn't drink coffee every day. Now that I do drink coffee every day, I don't even think of ordering a mocha. Too much sugar! I tend to stick with coffee, anywhere I go (including my house), with a little milk and sugar. Easy peasy. Sometimes I'll splurge and get a chai latte, but that's typically saved for cold afternoons. On warm days, it's all about the iced coffee with some sugar in the raw. I'm a simple girl when it comes to my coffee, I suppose.

I'm a total Starbucks girl with all the fat/sugary drinks they can throw at me. Frappachinos and iced mochas are my thing, no whip though!

Black coffee hot or iced is my usual drink of choice. I wonder what that says about me? ;)

Living in NOLA, it depends. I'm about to go do some studying at Cafe du Monde and that requires getting a cafe au lait, theirs are the absolute best. At home it's a flavored Keurig with half and half and sugar. At Starbucks though, it must be sugary, full of fat, etc.

Dark-roast, black. So simple, but so good! I love pairing it with a little treat every once in a while - the combo of bitter & sugar is heavenly. I also love chai lattes! Especially in the fall. I can't do iced coffee though for whatever reason...

I mean, I definitely love a frappuccino every once in a while, but give me extra whip on it!

That you're easy to please ;) It's definitely the simplest drink out there!

I definitely have my cafes where I need to order something special. It's usually a latte, all by itself. And I am definitely in need of a Keurig!

So easy! And I completely agree about the sweet with the coffee. So necessary.

I love the Keurig! It's worth every penny. The hubs only drinks decaf and I need my caffeine so we can always have what we both want. Plus, when only one of us wants a cup of coffee, it's SO easy. And their customer service is superb. We had an issue with ours and it needed to be replaced one day outside of warranty and they replaced for us without any problem. That sealed my loyalty to them.

I live in Phoenix, so it depends. I drink iced tea like it's coming out of the faucet in the summer when it's a 100+ outside. When I do drink coffee, I drink it with a bit of milk and no sugar (iced and hot). My favorite coffee experience: getting it a local coffee shop!

I prefer lattes since regular coffee sometimes upsets my stomach. My fiance usually makes them with his fancy-pants espresso machine but I have no shame in hitting up our local Starbucks every now and then!

So true! When I go to starbucks with people and they order mochas I secretly judge them. No coffee drinker orders mochas!

Love your blog! Have a beautiful day!

I totally agree with you. The funny thing is, I don't drink any of these! Hot chocolate is the only warm drink for me.

I totally love just a simple coffee with a little bit of cream, but do splurge and get the full fattening mocha on special occasions. :)

With coffee I've been loving an iced chai drink for the past few years, but lately I've been trying to quit coffee all together, I think right now I'm down to about 2 cups a week.

I love this post! I switch up my drink daily! Sometimes black coffee, sometimes skinny vanilla lattes, sometimes green tea, occasionally a Carmel Macchioto! Yum!

I think it depends on my mood–I usually go for coffee on the weekends, but during the week I try to just have a big bottle of ice water (someone once told me that it wakes you up even better–I don't know if it's true or not!). Occasionally I'll have tea and honey, too!

Ha, I would do that too if I lived in Arizona! But for me, it's all about the iced coffee. And I completely agree about the local coffee shop! We have some cute ones around here that I love visiting when I can.

I actually forgot to mention that I do drink lattes quite often, but usually only when I'm at a cute coffee shop and they serve it in a mug to drink there. We have an espresso machine, but it gets rarely used!

Haha I love this comment. I guess I'm secretly happy that I can be considered a coffee drinker now :)

I do love hot chocolate, but really only in the winter, and then, it's all about the peppermint hot chocolate!

Unknown said...

I think we all splurge sometimes, but I just can't drink it in the morning! It's more of a dessert for me ;)

Unknown said...

I've actually never had iced chai! I guess I should probably try it :)

Changing things up can definitely be necessary sometimes. Though I drink regular coffee 90% of the time, I do get a latte every once in a while! Everything else gets saved for later in the day!

I don't really like coffee, which is kind of silly since I work at Starbucks. I love iced caramel macchiatos though, and I guess I'm still enough of a teenager that I can enjoy a white mocha every now and again! :)

I drink coffee every morning and afternoon- it always has some sort of cream and sugar in it. The full leaded-ness of those things varies from week to week depending on if I'm feeling like I want to nix the fat or if I'm feeling burned out on artificial sweeteners. We don't have Starbucks here (I know, right?) so I brew coffee at my apartment every morning. It's fun to see what other people drink!

I actually don't drink coffee or tea in the mornings! All I need is a tall glass of juice. Yeah, I'm probably weird! When I do drink coffee, which is very rarely, it has to be super sweet and light. If it tastes too much like coffee, I won't drink it!

Unknown said...

I should probably drink more water in the mornings! I've heard that it wakes you up too, but I just can't seem to shake the coffee!

Unknown said...

Haha I actually know a few people who don't like coffee that work at Starbucks! Maybe it's just being around it all the time? And I don't blame you for the caramel macchiatos...I indulge every once in a while, but it's definitely a dessert for me!

Unknown said...

I'm kind of the same way, but I really don't like artificial sweeteners. I did find one that I like, but it's all natural and only "sweet cream" flavor rather than vanilla or caramel or anything. I've been drinking more coffee in the afternoons too...maybe that's a sign that we're working too hard Kate haha ;) xoxo

That's better than me! I love juice too, but when I have to drink it AND my coffee. I just can't go without in the morning!

I use to drink a french vanilla cappuccino every day when I was in middle school. Now I drink coffee to calm down. Yes, I am one of those that has the opposite effect of coffee. Coffee mellows me.
That means in the morning I usually have a diet coke or a soda before switching to water.
