My blog has a problem. Or maybe it's just me.

I blog for a lot of reasons: It’s therapy for me. It’s a creative outlet. It satisfies my need for pretty things. It helps me develop my writing.

But I have a problem. I don’t have a niche.

I love weddings, and sometimes I write about weddings. On Friday, I post outfits that I’ve created. I talk about my life and personal goals and opinions. But I also post pictures of pretty houses and tulle skirts and funny things I find on Pinterest. I guess some people would call me a lifestyle blogger. I would just call myself random.

The problem is, while I don’t necessarily want to make blogging my career {it would be pretty awesome though}, I would like to use my {relatively} successful blog to my advantage.

I recently deleted my seriously neglected wedding blog, and decided to focus all of my blogging energy on this blog. But was that a bad idea? Should I have sucked it up, and just continued to post half-ass posts on the wedding blog? I blog about wedding things here, and they’ve been relatively well received, but is that enough?

Eventually, if I ever write a book that gets published, this blog would be my platform for it. I also love writing about random topics {such as this one...}.

And I can’t help but wonder: does my blog have an identity crisis? Or should I just let it be what it wants to be?

But that’s another problem of mine. I’m not fashionable. I don’t have the prettiest home. I’m not a photographer. What does my blog want to be? And am I being stupid for thinking that it ever will be something that actually advances my personal, as well as professional, goals? Should I just give up?

This isn’t necessarily a “take pity on me” post. And it’s not a cry for more followers or a thinly veiled confession of blog envy. I just can’t figure it out for myself: Does my blog have a niche? If it doesn’t, is that alright?

I would really love your opinion. And I will take any and all criticism you may have.

Has your blog ever had an identity crisis?

I love your blog, niche or not! Personally I like reading about random things. It's like a surprise every day! I am new to blogging, but likes yours, mine also has no real identity. I just write about what I feel like writing about about... which is generally what is going on in my life :)

Like the above commenter- I love your blog and I don't think it needs to have a niche. I know mine certainly doesn't and I kind of like it that way. I like that I can write about whatever I want. I know that hurts me in the category of followers, but that doesn't really matter anyway. But basically no worries. I love what you write about!

I agree with Tennille- the randomness is what makes it so appealing. Life is random and our brains thinks in random ways so I say just embrace it for what it is.. perfect.

I've been enjoying reading your blog as it has been! But I know what you're saying about finding a niche. I thought I had one for my blog but have been feeling lately like I'm not really fitting into any one or two topics. It feels a little lost.

I check your blog every morning, and every evening when I check my email before bed. It's one of the few that I check daily {especially twice!} and I do so because I'm always excited to see what it has in store...I like that I don't know what to expect. I just know whatever you post will fill my heart with happiness and my brain with beautiful ideas! I completely understand where you're coming from, and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts...I often feel that way about my tiny blog, as it seems most bloggers certainly have a niche that I do not. Much love to you and your random blog! :)

I've thought many times about this myself. I feel like my blog is strictly about my life and wonder if people would rather read about fashion, recipes, and other topics other than what I did over the weekend and my growing baby. But everytime I think about branching out and doing fashion or what have you, it's just not me. And so I stick to what I'm doing and I'm always happy that I didn't try to be something I not and hope readers can appreciate that yes, this is my 4th video of my daughter this month but this is me :) I love love love your blog, no matter what the content so long as I can tell your passionate about it. It's easy to tell when a blogger is writing for someone else's approval, but you my dear are not. I love it all!

I had the same thoughts a few months ago. I started trying to find a niche, and then realized I don't want to be narrowed down to only one subject. I like the random, and it makes it much easier to write creative posts! Whatever inspires you at the moment is what you should write about!

I think you're thinking too much about it...it's your blog, do what you want!

my blog is a reflection of my life, my thoughts, my experiences, my travels, things i love about my life - so it is a variety of things which makes it versatile. i think sometimes blogs that are so focused, definitely filters audience.

Your blog's niche is YOU! My blog is all over the place too, but when I tired to stick to one topic, it was not as well recieved as me just being myself. Keep writing about what you love- it is what makes your blog great!

I love your blog as is! Because it touches on so many things I enjoy reading it more. I don't enjoy reading any blog that is too focused. The blogs I follow that fall too much into a niche are the ones I pass over to read a blog like yours. I think you should embrace your blog for what it is - a complete reflection of you!!

i worried about that too once, because i find myself talking about a variety of topics...and that's normal because we are complex individuals! it's hard to talk about just one thing all the time, so mix it up, and do posts you feel passionate about!

I went through the same problem with my old blog on Blogger and have even started going through it again with my new blog. I read once that if you're considering starting a blog you should wait until you've written your first 10 posts, that way you know where you're going with it and have already prepared and brainstormed content, niche, and so on. I just switched to Wordpress and started a whole new blog not too long ago, but am thinking about switching back over to Blogger using this advice.

I think you are wider than a niche. Your blog is a delight to read. I check it every day and I read with pleasure every one of your post.
Your thoughts make it more real and it feels like you are talking to every one of us this way.
I think it's normal to have these interrogations and it's good. Now I love your blog as it is, and I think I am not the only one.
Remain who you are, it's true personalities people are in search for.
Take care.

Your blog is awesome, because we get to know you! I think blogs that don't have niche, are a blessing in the blog world. No, there is nothing wrong with writing on one topic, but I don't know if you truly get to know someone without all the randomness that is them! This blog is you! You should never be ashamed of that. The people who respect your blog, will read it no matter what, and the ones who find it too broad need to get out there and experience more! It's not about numbers, it's all about honesty! The numbers will come, and they will be people who respect your blog and you!

“I’m not fashionable. I don’t have the prettiest home. I’m not a photographer.” Add I can’t cook and I can’t craft and you’ve just described me and my blog! I’m very random and sometimes a bit shallow on my blog, but it’s my little escape from my stay at home mom world and I think I’m ok without a niche. You are doing just fine too. I’m a newer follower, but I’ve loved everything I’ve read. You are a great writer and really speak to your readers!

OMG! I feel the same way!!! But to be honest... some of my favorite blogs are just like that - random. So I wouldn't worry too much about it! :)
