{wedding wednesday: the party}

Happy Wednesday everyone! If you haven’t seen already, I’ve created a special Wedding Wednesday page with all sorts of information for this lovely day.

Today, I’m talking about the next step in the engagement fun.

The Party

throwing an engagement party

I guarantee that once you get engaged, you will {and should} take every opportunity to celebrate. Throwing an engagement party is the perfect way to do so.

Party 101

If someone does gift you a give at your engagement party, don’t open it in front at the party. You don’t want guests who didn’t bring you anything to feel awkward.

If you host

Take your time

If you are throwing a party for another person, make sure you give them time to process things before bombarding them with an engagement party proposal. They will probably want to enjoy the first few days of their engagement before agreeing to anything.

Keep it simple

Remember, there’s still a wedding. So make sure you aren’t upstaging the big day.

pictures

Hiring a photographer, or at least taking great pictures, is a wonderful way to get pictures to display for the wedding. An engagement party is another event for the couple to remember.

Tell the story

An engagement party is a great way to tell the story of the couple throughout their courtship and up until their engagement. Guests will love to see a romantic side to their relationship.

Lastly…

Of course, any gifts given at an engagement party must be acknowledged by a thank you note.

Resources

As always, the Knot has great tips on throwing an engagement party.

Real Simple also has a fantastic list for the party as well.

Before we go, I thought I’d share a special moment from my own {impromptu} engagement party, which resembled a frat party more than anything else, three years ago.

Yes, we definitely toasted to champagne from red cups. It was epic.

Thanks Dan Erickson ;)

Great post! One of my favorite memories from our engagement is our engagement party. We had a cocktail party with cake and hors d'eouvres and it was perfect! I just wish we had taken more pictures! Great tip above regarding the pictures, you can never have enough :)

I think telling the proposal story is so important to include at the engagement party! I love hearing couples retell their story, especially since the two perspectives are usually so different.

That sure looked like a well-planned and fun party. I especially liked how catchy that invitation was.

Attending an engagement party is so much fun specially when you how much the couple love each other. I remember my own Long Island wedding whenever I see engagement parties. It was so lovely!
